Benjamin Lewis NICHOLAS – Wales to Kansas, April 1881

Benjamin Lewis Nicholas was my great great uncle who emigrated, from South Wales, to Kansas, USA in the early 1880s.

Benjamin was born on the family farm, Holloway Fach (Lower Holloway), near the hamlet of Penffordd (part of the parish of Bletherston) near Narbeth, Pembrokeshire, Wales on March 10, 1856. His parents were my great great grandparents Thomas and Martha (Lewis) Nicholas.

In February 28, 1881 Benjamin married Miss Margaret Beynon, a native of Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, Wales where he had served on the police force for six years. Margaret’s  parents were John and Ann (Williams) Beynon.

In April of the same year, Ben and Margaret sailed to America, from Liverpool for New York on the “SS Bothnia”Leaving Liverpool on Apr. 09 and arriving in New York on Apr. 19
